The brief descriptions below are designed to familiarize you with our staff's training, professional credentials and work experience.


Paul Bermanski, M.D.

Paul Bermanski M.D. has been a gastroenterologist in his community since 1988.  He received his medical degree in 1983 at Mt. Sinai Hospital and was a fellow in gastroenterology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, which he completed in 1988.  He came to Huntington and began the practice,  North Country Medical Associates, a.k.a., Long Island Gastroenterology Associates in 1988.  Dr. Bermanski is board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the American College of Gastroenterology.  Dr. Bermanski is the Medical Director of Digestive Health Center of Huntington, which he began developing in 1997 and came to fruition in December 2002.  Dr. Bermanski is a senior partner at Long Island Gastroenterology Associates along with Dr. Richard Fried and Dr. David Purow.  Dr. Bermanski maintains an office in Huntington and specializes in endoscopic procedures, gastroenterologic diseases and liver diseases.


Richard Fried, M.D.

After obtaining his Master of Arts/Bachelor of Arts from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Fried received his medical degree in 1988 from New York University School of Medicine (where he graduated AOA). He completed his internship and residency at the Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, MA (a Harvard teaching hospital). He spent time there as Medical Chief Resident at the Brockton/West Roxbury VA Hospital. He completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Fried is currently board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is also a Clinical Instructor in Medicine and actively teaches medical students at the New York University School of Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Fried is an Attending Physician in Gastroenterology at Huntington Hosptial, Huntington, NY, and Bellevue Hospital Center, New York, NY. He is a physician partner in North Country Medical Associates along with Drs. Bermanski and Purow. He is also codirector of the Digestive Health Center in Huntington where he performs endoscopic procedures. He has a particular interest in motility disorders of the GI tract.


David Purow, M.D.

A native Staten Islander, Dr. David Purow proceeded from Stuyvesant High School to Brown University where he received an honors degree in Classics (studying ancient Greek) while preparing for medical school.  Dr. David Purow graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1997.  He moved back north to further his training as an intern and resident at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.  He served as an assistant Chief resident during his final year.   Dr. Purow then stayed at Cornell for his gastroenterolgy fellowship, where he developed a particular interest in liver disease.  A further interest in gastroenterointestinal malignancies was fueled by a large amount of time spent at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center during his training.

Dr. Purow is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterology Associations.  He maintains an avid interest in all areas of gastroenterology and liver disease and is trained in advanced endoscopic procedures, including therapeeutic endoscopic retrogrqade cholangiopancreatography.

During his free time, Dr. Purow’s life revolves around his wife and their twins.  Dr. Purow is also an avid sports fan, enjoying raquetball and fantasy baseball and football.
